New Jersey is one of the more complicated states in the country for a simple question like "is my water okay?" A single town can be served by a municipal utility, an investor-owned company, a regional authority, or several different systems at once. A private well isn't regulated the way a public system is, so testing is left entirely to the owner. NJ Water Quality exists to translate all of that into a plain-English path anyone can follow.

No. NJ Water Quality is an independent educational resource and is not affiliated with or endorsed by NJDEP, NJDOE, NJDOH, any municipality, water utility, laboratory, or school district. Every regulatory claim on this site links to the official source so you can verify it directly.
How do I find my exact New Jersey water system and Consumer Confidence Report?
Start with our Public Water guides, which walk through checking your water bill, searching the NJDEP Drinking Water Viewer by system name, county, and municipality, and confirming the system ID before opening the current CCR.
Do I need to test my private well?
New Jersey does not regulate private wells the way it regulates public systems, so routine testing is the homeowner's responsibility. If you are buying, selling, or renting a property with a private well, the NJ Private Well Testing Act generally requires certified sampling as part of the transaction.
