A water-quality glossary, downloadable planning checklists, and links to the official New Jersey and federal sources this site relies on.
Water-quality glossary
- CCR (Consumer Confidence Report)
- The annual water-quality report a community water system is required to publish, summarizing monitoring results, source water, and any violations.
- MCL (Maximum Contaminant Level)
- The highest level of a contaminant allowed in water delivered to customers.
- MCLG (Maximum Contaminant Level Goal)
- The level of a contaminant below which there is no known or expected health risk; a public-health goal, not an enforceable limit.
- Action Level
- A concentration that triggers required treatment or other action, used for contaminants like lead and copper that are addressed through the Lead and Copper Rule rather than a single MCL.
- PWTA (Private Well Testing Act)
- New Jersey's law generally requiring certified water testing as part of covered real-estate sales and leases of private-well properties.
- PWSID (Public Water System ID)
- The unique identifier NJDEP assigns to each public water system, used to confirm you have the correct system and report.
